Why your online orders matter to us, and to the future of our industry.
Craft alcohol manufacturers face an inordinate amount of regulatory and market access issues. Simply put, getting alcohol to customers is hard! For the last decade we have been working with the Maryland Distillers Guild and our fellow distillers to craft laws that allow better access to consumers and increased sales channels for Maryland alcohol manufacturers. We have had some big successes: we increased the number of farmers markets + offsite events we can attend, as well as making spirits festivals possible.
In 2020 we got a huge break: Home delivery! Shipping! Unlimited sales direct to consumers at the distillery! Finally we were able to do business in a more flexible, and sensible, way.
Over the last 3 years, we have delivered hundreds of bottles of LYON RUM (& Gray Wolf Spirits) direct to Marylander’s homes via our rum runner vans, turning this special “privilege” into an important component of our business and a fantastic service for our customers.
In order to continue to offer delivery, we are asking the Maryland legislature to permanently change the law that inherently limits our ability to sell — HB1217 (&/or SB1041) will ensure that distilleries can continue to sell directly to consumers in a variety of ways, all of which we have been doing responsibly since 2020.
Without passing such a bill, our existing sales channels will be further reduced, and on-site sales will be rolled back to 3 bottles per person, per visit. These antiquated laws limit growth in our industry and are long overdue to be changed. Maryland craft distilleries need parity with other manufacturers (as well as fellow American distilleries) and to be able to sell in ways that meet the expectations and desires of our customers.
If you have ordered home delivery in the last 3 years, THANK YOU!
If you haven’t yet, what are you waiting for?
Either way, if you live in Maryland and could use some stellar rum ORDER NOW! Your order matters: to our business, to the future of Maryland alcohol manufacturing, and the entire craft liquor industry, and to proving our case that alcohol delivery should not go away!
